B.Pharm 5th Semester Medicinal Chemistry II – Unit 2 Notes

Medicinal Chemistry II is one of the important subjects in the B.Pharm 5th Semester. Unit 2 mainly deals with Anti-anginal Agents, Diuretics, and Anti-hypertensive Agents. Students must focus on classification, mechanism of action, structure–activity relationship (SAR), therapeutic uses, and synthesis of selected drugs as per PCI syllabus.

  • Methyldopate hydrochloride*, Clonidine hydrochloride, Guanethidine monosulphate, Guanabenz acetate,
  • Sodium nitroprusside, Diazoxide, Minoxidil, Reserpine, Hydralazine hydrochloride.

🔑 Important Points for Students

  • Drugs marked with * are compulsory for chemical synthesis.
  • Focus areas: Classification, Mechanism of Action, SAR, Synthesis, and Therapeutic Uses.
  • Learn structural modifications in diuretics and ACE inhibitors.
  • Remember adverse effects of nitrates, thiazides, and beta-blockers.
  • Prepare short notes on SAR of CCBs and thiazides.
  • Practice reaction mechanisms for synthesis-based drugs.
  • Very useful for GPAT, Drug Inspector, and Pharma Competitive Exams.

Medicinal Chemistry II (B.Pharm 5th Semester) focuses on drug chemistry, structure–activity relationships, and mechanisms of important therapeutic agents. Unit 2 covers three major drug categories – Anti-anginal agents, Diuretics, and Anti-hypertensive agents. This unit is very important for university exams, GPAT, and NIPER preparation.

A PDF version from the University curriculum outlines the same content and emphasizes studying classification, mechanism of action, therapeutic uses, structure-activity relationships, and the chemical synthesis of selected drugs (marked with ‘*’) within Unit II
